Do It You Damn-self

I saw that a couple of Chinese dudes made a helicopter and airplane from scratch...!!!!

Shit is real.

According to Gizmodo, the "farmer" who made this spent $3000 (cash crop) to put it together. And it totally works.

This dude made a damn plane.

Ease up Chinese people!!!!! Now big-up yourselves.

I had a DIY project too today; bowl of raisin bran.

Chinee Movie: CJ7

I am super stoked that I finally got to see CJ7 last night. It was a long time coming as it had been released in China during the Chinee New Year break.

As for the movie, it was awesome. The effects were on par with past Steve Chow flicks Kung Fu and Shaolin Soccer. There was still a good amount of laughs even though there are now requisite social and emotional elements to Chow's movies.

The only downside, for me, was the scarcity of Chow on screen; in fact, he seems to occupy more of a supporting actor role. That may be part of his master plan to get more done behind the camera, and unfortunately not deliver as many punchlines. This being the case, the lead actor portraying Chow's son - the young and female Xu Jiao - comes through with some real funny ish. S/he is placed in a number of situations that reference a number of Chow movies but include tributes to some foreign ones as well (Mission Impossible!!!).

Furthermore, the supporting cast continues to feature the usual cast of freaks and weirdos that Chow loves to have us gawk at. One of my favorites is the track and field coach with the worlds highest shorts.

No spoilers here just get out there and see it in the theater if you can. I am going to look for it on the internets, so maybe I'll post a link later.

Stephen Chow = Social Commentary

Stephen Chow has been making insightful observations on Chinese culture in his movies for a while. In Shaolin Soccer, Chow deals with sinocentricism and the invasion of colonial cultures. In his latest movie he, allegedly, takes on class issues.
Some Sechuanese writes:

"Thus is the promising beginning to Steven Chow’s new movie, which has been dubbed by many as “China’s ET” and which has been hugely successful in mainland theaters. Though migrant workers have been portrayed in many other smaller (usually banned) Chinese movies, it is rare for them to be propped up in lead roles in mainland blockbusters. Could this be that rare popular movie that transcends its normal limits and become serious social commentary?"

I would respectfully assert that Chow has been making these types of half totally over-the-top half seriously-intense-social commentary flicks for a minute now. Going back to 1997's Lawyer, Lawyer - Chow breaks down the absurdity and corruption of the British colonial legal system - or his celebration of Chinese technological inoovation in Forbidden City Cop, your boy Stephen has been repping for his fam.

Anyway, I haven't seen the movie yet, it probably going to be awesome. Again some people are complaining that, "oh the alien solves all their problems." Well, guess what? It's a movie. If some incredible shit didn't happen, it would have been a documentary.

Bottom line: Chow is like Spielberg; doing big things. If you want further proof check the resume...bitch.

illest kungfu?

While showing exception to the pandering of putting a white boy in a Chinese kung-fu movie, the Chan-Li connection could be dangerous. The soundtrack is pretty good too. Plus Monkey's cudgel?!
What?!

101 = F4

This is the 101st post. It's only right that I set it off with the most certifiably insane video i've never seen. Plus it has nonsense Chinese subtitles so you can sound it out in your karaoke sesh(?). I think the artist is called F4.

new stephen chow movie

"a comedy that's out of this world"

Despite the fantastic cliche of the deep voiced movie trailer chap, I love Stephen Chow and his movies; the guy does. not. miss. This latest movie, CJ7, looks to be more of a family style movie with a heavy dose self-referential humor. From what I can tell this flick is on some aliens and space shizzle. Also, Chow plays a migrant worker/daddy, a role I don't think I've seen him in before.

Regardless, I expect nothing short of the funniest movie evar once this puppy hits American screens, chopped and screwed style that is, in 2009.

Here's the trailer:

boba warz

-not that boba-

The boba game is crazy right now in SF. Now, I don't really like pearl tea, unicorns do, but i don't. The idea of drinking something that slimy and chunky is right up there with drinking something slimy and chunky. It's even less desirable to me than grass jelly, which is well slimy in it's own right. I digress.

It seems that big tapioca is moving in on the working man's tapioca game with both sides enlisting (read: bribing) the help of, i shit u not, Ed Jew. The bad blood between boba bastions escalated to snitching on each other for illegal construction, to going in The Wire style and paying politicians for permits.

I guess there is a ton of gwap to be made in those shitty little powered drinks that people pay $5 for. Who knew?! I'm just glad Kung-Fu Chicken Noodle is on our side.

Shiiiiiiiiiiit is real.

Walk along the razor's edge

Push it to the limit
Walk along the razor's edge
but don't look down, just keep your head
and you'll be finished

Open up the limit
past the point of no return
You've reached the top but still you gotta learn
how to keep it

Hit the wheel and double the stakes
throttle wide open like a bat out of hell
and you crash the gates
(crash the gates)

Going for the back of beyond
Nothing gonna stop you
there's nothing that strong
So close now you're nearly at the brink
so, push it

(Ooo yeah)

Welcome to the limit
(The limit)
Take it maybe one step more
The power game's still playing so
you better win it

Push it to the limit
(The limit)
With no one left to stand in your way
you might get careless, but you'll never be safe
while you still feel it

Welcome to the limit
(The limit)
Standing on the razor's edge
don't look down just keep your head
and you'll be finished

Welcome to the limit

Donnie Yen = B-Boy

Most people know him for his leading role in Iron Monkey. Others know him as a Hong Kong B-Boy who is really from Boston.

Mismatched Couples (1985). I recommend watching this on VCD.

Jamie Kennedy bit this bit for Kicking It Old School.

Drunken Tai Chi(?) (1984)

Please Donnie, don't hurt 'em.

Get In The Flow

Here is a little something something that I put together with the Chinese Connection aka Lil' Spida aka 小蜘蛛. We were holding beat battles over at what was once shiftcn.com aka yintsang.com aka hiphop4china.com which is now ubreath.com. This was my contribution. I am not sure if they still are hosting the battles...

Cheffy!

If you don't know by now. Crazy Chef is funny. He has funny hair and funny rhymes. In the following video he says "转" (Zhuan = Spin) about a hundred times.

Cheffy is part of the group Dragon Tongue Squad (龙门阵) with his life partner Sketch Krime aka Kirby Lee.

Here is another Dragon Tongue video featuring some old British geezer.

Surprise! he asks them about censorship in China. I guess he knows quite a bit about what real hip hop is all about since he is a fifty-something from jolly-old jollytown.
