Stephen Chow = Social Commentary

Stephen Chow has been making insightful observations on Chinese culture in his movies for a while. In Shaolin Soccer, Chow deals with sinocentricism and the invasion of colonial cultures. In his latest movie he, allegedly, takes on class issues.
Some Sechuanese writes:

"Thus is the promising beginning to Steven Chow’s new movie, which has been dubbed by many as “China’s ET” and which has been hugely successful in mainland theaters. Though migrant workers have been portrayed in many other smaller (usually banned) Chinese movies, it is rare for them to be propped up in lead roles in mainland blockbusters. Could this be that rare popular movie that transcends its normal limits and become serious social commentary?"

I would respectfully assert that Chow has been making these types of half totally over-the-top half seriously-intense-social commentary flicks for a minute now. Going back to 1997's Lawyer, Lawyer - Chow breaks down the absurdity and corruption of the British colonial legal system - or his celebration of Chinese technological inoovation in Forbidden City Cop, your boy Stephen has been repping for his fam.

Anyway, I haven't seen the movie yet, it probably going to be awesome. Again some people are complaining that, "oh the alien solves all their problems." Well, guess what? It's a movie. If some incredible shit didn't happen, it would have been a documentary.

Bottom line: Chow is like Spielberg; doing big things. If you want further proof check the resume...bitch.

max well

If you have about three hours of free time you should really check this video out. Jordan Maxwell is like the illest/gullyest researcher that I have heard of. Why? Because he puts together all of the symbols found all over the place from the statue of liberty torch, to the pyramid and all-seeing eye, to the squares you wear on your head when you graduate. Shit is real.

Moreover, Ice-T, Afrika Islam, Afrika Bambatta, Ras Kass and the RZA have been sampling homie.

New World Order - Ice T
The End - Rass Kass and RZA

Anyweezy, here is the 3 hour lecture. Good luck - and prepare to have your mind imploded!

boba warz

-not that boba-

The boba game is crazy right now in SF. Now, I don't really like pearl tea, unicorns do, but i don't. The idea of drinking something that slimy and chunky is right up there with drinking something slimy and chunky. It's even less desirable to me than grass jelly, which is well slimy in it's own right. I digress.

It seems that big tapioca is moving in on the working man's tapioca game with both sides enlisting (read: bribing) the help of, i shit u not, Ed Jew. The bad blood between boba bastions escalated to snitching on each other for illegal construction, to going in The Wire style and paying politicians for permits.

I guess there is a ton of gwap to be made in those shitty little powered drinks that people pay $5 for. Who knew?! I'm just glad Kung-Fu Chicken Noodle is on our side.

Shiiiiiiiiiiit is real.
Here's the original article.

10 min. mind breaker

If you're anything like me, you live in a constant state of confusion; not knowing what is real and what is unreal. Digital media is the ultimate medium of the simulacrum - it can can be edited, replayed and re-edited ad-infinitum until you are so turned around that you cannot for sure identify truth from falsehood. The 9/11 videos tipify this birth and re-birth of the image and the inherent dishonesty in that image. Prepare to be fucked, if you dare.

happy new year.

The Beast's 50 most loathsome people of 2007

Brilliantly snarky and dead on in capturing 50 of the truly loathsome that inflict our world. Some examples:

Joe Francis: The "brain" behind Girls Gone Wild, a series of videos documenting the decline of American civilization, Francis is the Ray Kroc of tit shots. A whinging, muppet-faced, juvenile smut-peddler who obtusely compares his artless, homogenized flesh surfeit to "European television," he proves daily that alcohol is the original date rape drug, and still the best. Has sapped flashing of its spontaneity, transforming it into merely another sad, numbing cultural reflex.

Chris Matthews: the unmodulated speech and unfocused antagonism of an aggrieved middle-management drunk.

Michael Vick:
Makes millions for throwing ball, decides to invest in gambling on dog fights. How much dumber do people get than this?

chipped-up

In case you haven't heard, there is a hidden and not so hidden movement towards world government aka the NWO that doesn't involve wrestling. There are some positive and negative effects to switching over to the NWO.

First the positive:
1. better variety in restaurants,
2. no passports,
3. better cell phone reception and
4. less wars

The negatives:
1. getting chipped-up,
2. never ending war against terror,
3. homogenization through hegemony and
4. more strollers

While watching The Kingdom's history lesson intro, I thought of this movie. Mixing history and fiction is maybe as po-mo as the D.A.N.C.E. Kimmel performance.

First Of All...

Here is a video that I enjoyed: The Power of Nightmares Part 1. BBC documentary on the use of fear in politics. Features a good look at the philosophies of Sayyid Qutb and Leo Strauss.

Sayyid posits that things like excessive lawn care, talk of car prices and popular haircuts are indicative of a selfish and materialistic life. Basically, a Holden Caufield-esque look at the world that many people, first experience in high school and college.

Strauss went on to teach Wolfowitz, Pearl and Rumsfeld how to scare people into falling in line.

Fans of mustaches enjoy.
